Learning by Doing
No other educational approach has proven as effective for students as actually doing things themselves — not just listening, not just watching, not just completing written assignments or reading textbooks. Certainly, our classrooms provide traditional instruction in the required core fields, but even here, we tailor lessons and coursework to actively engage students on all levels: physically, kinetically, and emotionally, as well as mentally and intellectually.
Our inquisitive, spirited students flourish when they’re genuinely interested in and involved with their own educational experience. That’s why we offer a wide array of Career Classes as elective courses to supplement their required academic program.
New Road’s complementary Career Program consists of more than 15 fields of study. To determine what areas of training the students would like to pursue, they’re given our “Interest Inventory.” The results help guide students toward continued coursework and career preparation that will be most stimulating to them and is best suited to their specific aptitudes and strengths.
Whatever career track they choose and whatever path they eventually commit to, New Road students most enjoy and best succeed by Learning by Doing. It’s the New Road way, and it’s a way that’s been successfully transitioning young adults into their community after graduation for over 20 years.
