Students attend Environmental Photography Gala in Trenton, NJ

Budding photographers from New Road School of Ocean County attended the 11th Annual State Capitol and Environmental Photography Exhibit and Gala Opening on Wednesday, May 3, 2007, in Trenton, New Jersey. The Gala is a celebration for all of us to “make a difference” in our world and to discover our environmental commitments through the brilliant visions of first time photographers.
Over 100 photographers from six schools throughout New Jersey focused their attention on the natural beauty of our world. The photographic images taken by the students “convey innocence and an understanding of how we, as individuals, are all responsible for the earth’s care and daily preservation,” noted Ross Lewis, founder of the program. New Road students displayed photographs that were taken during our S.E.E. (Special Eyes on the Environment) program during the fall of 2006.
New Road students were asked to write about their thoughts and feelings while taking these photographs. Some of the responses were quite interesting. One participant wrote, “I found the photography project very exciting and I was quite enthusiastic about it.”
Other students were a little apprehensive; “I was very nervous when I got on the bus to take pictures for the S.E.E. program, but when I got off the bus I saw a different story.” “Looking at pictures in a different way enabled me to feel at one with the environment” observed another student. While students had different thoughts about the project and the environment, all unanimously agreed that they can’t wait to do this again next year.
New Road School of Ocean County is very proud of the amazing accomplishments of our students. The developing photographers hope that this exhibit will inspire others to take responsibility for our environment. The photos are currently being exhibited throughout Trenton in the lobbies of the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex, the Mary Roebling Building and the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency.
